Rehabilitating Spinal Treatments

Spinal decompression therapy manually stretches the spine to assist in hydrating intervertebral spinal discs. At Gardner, we offer non-surgical spinal decompression therapy to relieve pain and promote an optimal healing environment for a variety of spinal disc injuries.

Spinal Disc Injury Cause and Effect

Spinal discs are soft and compressible discs that sit between the interlocking bones, or vertebrae, that make up your spinal cord. They have a soft, jelly-like interior and a tough exterior. Discs absorb the shock between your bones when you walk, jump, run, twist, and bend. Changes to these discs can cause neck or back pain may result in herniated or degenerated discs.

Degenerated discs are a result of fluid loss in your discs or tiny tears and cracks in the outer layer of the disc. This causes spinal discs to break down or degenerate. Patients that smoke cigarettes, are obese, or perform repetitive physical work are more likely to experience degenerated discs.

A herniated disc occurs when the soft interior of a spinal disc pushes out through a tear or crack in the exterior. This can result in pain, numbness, and even weakness in the arms and legs.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

During a spinal decompression therapy session, the patient will lie down on a motorized table. A harness will be attached to their hips and will be used to gently stretch the spine. The patient should not feel any pain during the session but feel their spine stretching and lengthening.

Non-surgical spinal decompression therapy creates negative pressures within the spinal discs, which can assist the discs to pull the material back into place and takes the pressure off of any nerves and soft tissue that may be causing the pain. Many patients have walked away feeling pain relief and relaxation after just a few sessions.
