Mechanical Vibration Therapy

Vibration therapy is a passive exercise that utilizes mechanical vibrations to treat physical injuries and promote bone density. Vibrations are applied to an area of the body to improve muscle, bone, and circulatory health.

How Chiropractic Vibration Therapy Works

Vibration therapy aims to facilitate joint movement and prevent bone loss by creating an environment where your muscles will contract and relax. As a result, your muscles will stimulate the production of osteoblasts, cells that produce bone. Increased joint motion creates improved mobility and reduces the inflammation process created by joint fixations and subluxations.

There are two types of vibration therapy: whole-body vibration therapy and localized vibration therapy.

Whole-body Vibration Therapy

Whole-body vibration therapy treatments use a vibration machine that a patient can sit, lay or stand on. The machine will create vibration movements to transmit energy into the body. While on the machine, a patient will be asked to perform a static pose like stretching.

Localized Vibration Therapy

The patient will stand, sit, or lay on a table while the doctor uses a standing platform or a handheld vibration machine to apply vibrations to a selected muscle group. Localized vibration therapy uses lighter vibration as compared to whole-body vibration.

Light vibration is a great way to relax and warm up the muscles. A higher vibration, used with whole-body therapy, acts to train the muscles.

The positive health benefits of vibration therapy are provided by whole-body vibration as well as localized vibration.
